Friday Forum #9: Building a more sustainable, resilient, and local food system.

Date & Time

17 June 2022 12:30 pm - 1:30 pm

Our food system is under great pressure from climate change and natural disaster-related supply chain disruptions. Making matters worse, the impacts of the Ukraine-Russia war, are sending food prices to record levels that will push even more people into food insecurity.

These complex and systemic challenges require proactive and intersectoral action, but where do we start?

Join subject matter experts and advocates, Dr Amy Carrad and Berbel Franse to explore how we can build a more sustainable, resilient, equitable and local food system here in the Illawarra.

Amy will draw on the findings of recent research exploring the role of Australian local governments and civil society groups in creating healthy, sustainable, and equitable food systems. Berbel will respond to this big question from her perspective as the Coordinator of community coalition, Food Fairness Illawarra, and driver behind the recently launched Wollongong Online Farmers Market.
