Participating in Community Supported Agriculture (CSA)
Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) is a subscription model supporting local farmers – where all customers share in the rewards of a bountiful harvest, and the risks of crop failures. A typical CSA model might see you invest $40 a week into a farm, which provides a vegetable box filled with produce harvested on the farm that week. Boxes may be worth far more than the $40 with an abundant summer harvest or could occasionally be worth less if a crop is damaged. CSA strengthens and provides security for local farmers – ensuring positive cashflow and allowing them to better manage risk. There are currently no true CSA systems in the Illawarra, however, local farm & vegetable box supplier, Green Connect, provides a close alternative.
